Fantastic game of football and 3 points to show for it!!!!! Lots of firsts today. First win of the season, first ever win over Winchester, first ever goals scored against Winchester by the Ocmets. Every girl worked their socks off today and came out deserving winners. Each and every girl did their job fantastically, whether it be goalkeeping, defending, midfield or attack. Well done everyone. Opposition player of the match went to Jessie Williams who made some great saves and kept Winchester at bay on the odd occasion that they managed to get past our brilliant defence.
22.10.11 Comets 2 v 2 St Francis 10:30 Cody League more info
What can I say? Another great performance, another draw! 2 very good goals from the Comets. Lily with a real strikers goal taken brilliantly, and Jess Horwood striking very well after some lovely team play. Jessie made some really brave saves, especially in the first half and the defence did a great job of keeping St Francis at bay for the most part. Unfortunately they did score one well taken goal. The second was a result of a mix up in defence that was no one's fault and just one of those things that will happen from time to time. Lucie picked up player of the match from the opposition for some very impressive runs and great shots. Well done girls. Undefeated in 4 games!
15.10.11 Crofton Saints 1 v 1 Comets 10:00 Crofton League more info
Another very hard fought draw!! This was a good game of football between two equally matched teams. Again, 100% effort by all. The small pitch size did not suit our play, but the girls adapted their game well and created lots of chances throughout the game. The Comets went in front from a well taken long range shot from Lauren in the second half.Jessica Harborne was voted player of the match by the opposition for some very strong defending. Well done everyone. I can feel that win coming!!
01.10.11 Widbrook Ladies 2 v 2 Comets 11:15 Widbrook League more info
A lovely hot, sunny day for spectators. Rather too warm for actually playing. Due to a combination of heavy traffic and dodgey direcitios, we only had the bare 7 players for the first half of the match and the heat really had an effect towards the end of the 30 minutes. HOwever, the girls battled really hard and Jessie made some great saves to keep the Comets in the game. They did concede a goal, but managed to keep it to 1 -0 at the half time whistle. At half time the cavalry arriced and we had the luxury of 3 subs to give the girls a well earned breather. The fresh legs really gave the girls momentum and they scored 2 goals in really quick succession through a well taken Jessica Harborne free kick which Lauren made sure hit the back of the net, and a lovely bit of football by Lucie ending in a calmly taken shot that evaded the keepers grasp. Widbrook then equalised agains the run of play with a long range shot that bounced high and although Jessie got finger tips to it, wasn't able to make the save. The Comets then attacked for much of the remainder of the game but just could't find the winning goal. A hard earned point today. Well done girls.
24.09.11 Comets 2 v 2 Warsash Wasps 10:30 Cody League more info
This will go down as a game we should have won I think. Warsash were short of players, but the ones they had were skillful and hard working. The Comets didn't seem to be quite at full pace today, although the effort and team spirit was still there in abundance. The Comets had lots of chances and were very unlucky not to come away with 3 points. Opposition player of the match went to Lauren Sherman who worked really hard throughout in midfield.
17.09.11 Southampton 6 v 0 Comets 11:00 Winchester League more info
This was a day when the girls proved without doubt that they are a TEAM. Although they were tired they all put in 110%. Nobody moaned at other players, every girl supported their team mates. Southampton are, wothout doubt, the best team in the league. They play some very good football and the Comets coped incredibley well, especially in the first half which ended 2-0. In the second half the tiredness did start to show a little, although effort levels did not drop. Well done girls!! We are all very proud of you. Opposition player of the match went to Jessie for some strong and brave keeping.
